For students entering grades 6-9

Through this course students will learn not only the basics of the three branches of the United States government but they will be able to act them out in model situations. The first day of our course will establish not only the basics of our government but what issues students are actually interested in facing. Over the next two days students will act as senators in a mock model congress in which they will help to create model legislation
about issues that they care about. The next day will allow students to act out in a model supreme court having some students pose as supreme court justices and have other students posing as lawyers. On the final day students will elect a President and students will be appointed as members of the cabinet. This course aims to foster not only a greater understanding for government but also to bolster an appreciation for government.

This course is part of our Teen Teachers program in which Darien's high school and college students teach courses about topics they are passionate about. In addition to the Teen Teacher who will lead the activities, a Darien Public Schools staff member will supervise the class.
