Historical Thinking Skills Bootcamp
Entering grade 9
Public and private school social studies curriculums are becoming more robust and arduous each year. Teachers are choosing to ditch traditional textbooks and antiquated lecture styles for inquiry-based learning practices incorporating investigation and evaluation of primary sources and artifacts, debate and seminar discussions, civic engagement, and argumentative and synthesis writing. Students need to be explicitly taught critical content-specific literacy skills to access and actively participate in evolving curriculums.
This summer, have your student learn invaluable skills and tools to question, analyze, evaluate, connect, and synthesize social science materials and various real-world mediums to develop their ability “to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world” (National Council for the Social Studies).
The course will be specifically designed to prepare incoming freshman students for Western Civilization.
*Class will not meet on July 4.*
