Creating Comics

Entering Grades 6-12

Grades 6-9 - 8:30-10:30

Grades 10-12 - 10:30-12:30

This course will introduce students to creating and developing their characters for a comic book story from concept to completion. Lessons and demos will be given in traditional drawing, inking, and lettering mechanics throughout the course. Students will learn how to digitally scan, edit, and write their comics using Adobe Creative Suite. Additionally, students will apply the fundamentals of visual storytelling, such as page layout, composition, framing, pacing, and the language of comics, to their work. This class will allow students to delve into developing fictional worlds from which to draw storylines. Students are provided a library of age-appropriate reference materials from Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Manga, and a PBS film about the History of Comics. Handouts will be provided based on the published instructional books I authored from Barron’s Education series on creating comics and graphic novels.

**This class runs for four weeks (June 23-July 18).
