Students entering grades 6-8

VIRTUAL Class Description:

The class will “meet” via Google Meet or Zoom on Mondays and Fridays. On Mondays, students will spend the hour exploring a new topic/reading and strategy, then spend the week working on it. We will come back together on Fridays to share out/discuss our findings. While this class might be virtual, make sure your child has access to paper and colored markers/pencils, as students will learn both digital and on-paper ways of connecting to texts.

Join Mrs. Lareau and Mrs. Colonies as they guide you on a deep dive into middle-school skills needed to interact with fiction and non-fiction texts. A lot of classes in middle school, not just English, require notetaking skills, active reading strategies, and ways to write deeply about topics covered. Students will read short, engaging nonfiction and fiction texts and learn ways to make findings come alive through synthesis pages, vocabulary walls, word art, and other reading strategies.
