Middlesex Voyagers

For students entering grade 6

Middle school isn’t just a change in school buildings for your child -it’s a whole new way of life! Middlesex Voyagers is designed to help students develop confidence and reduce anxiety as they embark on this exciting adventure. Coming together at MMS just before the school year starts, your Voyager will work with MMS teachers and school counselors to become familiar with the ins and outs of Middlesex and 6th grade. Voyagers will explore the layout of their new school with a tour and other adventures through the building. In addition to discovering secrets to organizing their new lives and communicating at MMS, students will learn strategies to help them juggle and manage assignments and expectations from different teachers. Students will also engage in a variety of activities connected to our school norms and our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program which seeks to foster qualities of resilience, a growth mindset, and self-advocacy. Strategically placed at the end of August, MMS Voyagers seeks to respond to the questions, worries, and excitement of soon-to-be 6th graders right when they need this information the most, giving them practical strategies and resources to take with them! By the end of our week together, students will have their middle school bags packed and be eager to set off on this school year’s journey!
