Advanced Grammar: Classifying, Diagramming, and Combining Sentences 

Entering Grades 8-12

Do you wish you had a better grasp of English grammar? A better understanding of its concepts and its rules?

This course will be your chance to either catch up or brush up, as it is designed not only for students who struggle with grammatical concepts but also for those who have a keen interest in the subject and wish to explore it deeply.

Students who enroll will learn the following: (a) the evolution of English grammar and usage instruction; (b) key terms, concepts, and rules; (c) the functions of important phrases and clauses; (d) sentence diagramming (along with practice for improved syntax); and (e) sentence combining techniques (along with practice for improved fluency).

The study of grammar need not be boring. This course, through its inclusion of grammar’s history, controversies, and politics, is designed to make the subject come alive for students. Moreover, the course will empower students by making clear connections between increased grammar knowledge and improved thinking and writing.
