Adventures in Writing: Create Your Own Children's Book
Entering Grades 4-6
Adventures in Writing is a week-long immersive workshop for young writers who want to create their own children’s books. Designed for both new and returning students, each week guides writers through the essential elements of storytelling, including character development, plot structure, setting, voice, and illustration planning.
Students will brainstorm ideas, draft original stories, revise their work, and explore how authors bring children’s books to life. Daily lessons include mentor texts, creative prompts, guided writing time, and opportunities to share and receive supportive feedback. While each week stands alone, students who enroll in multiple weeks will have the opportunity to deepen their stories, expand their drafts, or begin new book projects.
By the end of each session, writers will leave with a completed or in-progress children’s book manuscript, a stronger understanding of the writing process, and increased confidence in their creative voice.
