Students will learn the fundamentals of acrylic painting while developing confidence in their artistic abilities and personal expression.
Throughout the course, students will practice color mixing, focus on color value studies, and understand how light and dark values create contrast and form in a painting. Students will explore basic drawing skills as a foundation for painting, using sketches and planning techniques to develop successful compositions for their projects. Students will have the opportunity to explore, practice and feel comfortable with acrylic paint and familiarize themselves with its characteristics.
Projects will include observational drawing, value exercises, and guided painting activities that introduce techniques such as blending, layering, and brush control. Students will have opportunities to experiment, solve creative problems, and express their own ideas while building technical skills. This class will encourage creativity, exploration, and collaboration in a supportive and enjoyable summer studio environment, where students can discover the extended possibilities of acrylic painting. No prior painting experience is required.
