Mathletes- Practical Math

Grades 6-9

Why make math so hard to "touch?" This class teaches practical aspects of math, then lets students apply them. It's the building block that can inspire children to become future designers, chemists, and engineers.

Ivy Bound's Practical Math tutors work with children entering grades 6-9 to design their family's next Mailbox, shop for their host's next Thanksgiving, bake the proper amount of cookies for the school's bake sale, fence off the right area for a skateboard park, delineate the course of a snowboarding competition, pack boxes that minimize the use of U-Haul trucks.

In pairs, students will: buy in bulk, reduce their tolls, choose among insurance policies, even decide among investment plans.
