Word Explorers: Cracking the Code

Entering Grades 1-2

In Word Explorers, students strengthen their reading, spelling, and word study skills through engaging, hands-on activities designed for early elementary learners. This course is thoughtfully designed to support both new and returning students by meeting children where they are and helping them grow as confident readers and writers. Students will explore sounds, spelling patterns, and word meanings through word study centers, games, sorting activities, shared reading, and read-alouds. Instruction is intentionally differentiated, meaning students may work with different words, spelling patterns, or levels of complexity based on their individual skills and prior experience. This ensures that each child is appropriately challenged and supported. Throughout the course, students will apply word study strategies directly to their reading and writing, helping them make meaningful connections and build independence. While familiar routines provide structure and confidence, lessons and activities offer new challenges and deeper exploration, making this class engaging for students who have participated in similar classes before, as well as those joining for the first time. This course is ideal for incoming 1st and 2nd grade students who are ready to expand their understanding of spelling patterns, vocabulary, and how words work in text.
